Protectli has offered a wireless kit that is compatible with all of the Vaults, FW1 through FW6 models. The kit includes the internal coax cables and WiFi antennas. The WiFi module, (WAP01K) is an mPCIe physical form factor module, but uses USB as the communications channel. It supports 802.11b,g,n specifications in the 2.4GHz band. It is compatible with Windows 10, Ubuntu/Debian Linux distributions and FreeBSD based Operating System (OS) pfSense® CE and OPNsense. However, due to limited support for WiFi in general in the FreeBSD based systems, Protectli recommends the WAP01K for WiFi connectivity, but not as a busy WiFi Access Point.
More information for the WAP01K can be found on the product page at this link: WAP01K
The FW2B, and FW6 series WiFi slots on the Vault support PCIe communications as well as USB communications, so they can accept some of the newer WiFi modules that support 802.11ac and utilize PCIe communications. However, support for 802.11ac, Access Point mode, and other WiFi features is dependent on OS support for a specific module.
The WiFi slot for the VP2410 is an M.2 2230 form factor module with PCIe communication. As such it can support the newer 802.11ac modules that operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Protectli now offers the WM-M2-001, M.2 2230 WiFi module for the VP2410. It supports 802.11ac, Dual Band, MU-MIMO, and other features. As noted above, support is dependent on the OS installed. Windows, Ubuntu/Debian and OpenWrt have excellent support for 802.11ac. However, FreeBSD based OS, OPNsense and pfSense® CE still lack basic support.
